we all lost what? We lost a president that ended slavery, and we lost the Right to Enslave people. We also lost millions of fellow Americans and the unity that should bind us. But which were you referring to?

Yes, I've heard the Civil War referred to as the "stupidest war in all of American history". I would agree.

MYTH ALERT!

Lincoln did NOT end slavery in the United States. The emancipation proclamation only affected those states (and regions) which were fighting to maintain political self determination (they were not under United States control, nor in United States terrritory), it was a political move designed to increase support for the war, he did not issue it until after the New York draft riots.

You can read The Emancipation Proclamation here.

Maybe so, but he was a despot who preserved the Union. Then again, when I look at the way the South has influenced American politics today, maybe this country would be better off without them.

if a state wants to secede from the union, they should be able to. lincoln suspended habeus corpus, vastly expanded executive federal power, declared martial law, violated court orders, and elevated the declaration of independance (not law) over the constitution (law). a lot of the policies of his administration make the activities of our current one seem almost benign. he set a nasty precedent, and america hasn't been the same since.
