My lophs seedlings seem to be fattening up faster than I thought they would.
Is it possible they are getting burned by light? Some of them have a tiny bit of an orange/red hue.
They're currently under a 25watt CFL, and have 60watts of flourescent further away from them.

I've heard that slight reddening of seedlings is normal. As long as most of them are green, it should be fine. Those look great to me. I've had redder seedlings and they seem to be doing ok. If they get worse, or all of them are red, you may want to move the light back a bit. I've got no experience growing with lights, though, so someone more experienced will likely be able to give better advice

Seedlings that are not grafted shouldn't be turning a red shade like that. You might want to pull the light back just a hair and watch their color over the next few days.
The only time I see seedlings turn red is when they are grafted and are close to going on a growth spurt.

A very slight red isn't a real problem but if gets darker its getting too much light. Most of my seedlings have gotten red/brown due to too much light since mine are outside and not under lights. It causes slower growth until it becomes accustomed to the light intensity. If not taken care of they will burn up and die.
From the picture it looks fine to me; a nice green would be better.

I guess I've had my seedlings getting too much sunlight, then Thanks for the help, SuperD! I'll probably shade them a bit more tomorrow, though I've also started some in a spot where they get late afternoon sunlight, dappled through a tree, and they seem to like that a lot. Guess I'll move the rest of my seedlings there too. On topic: I made a williamsii to pachanoi graft the other day, so hopefully it takes. I plan on grafting more seedlings soon regardless, since watching seedlings grow after grafting is so much fun

So my Loph seedlings have been turning more red. As a result, I've moved the CFL further away. Hopefully they start to green up a little more.
They sure are fattening up quick though. At the very least, I'm glad to see they aren't stretching out really badly.

I have sowed many seeds in same tray, some are skinny, some are fat ball-shape seedlings. It's okay. Later you don,t even notice what has been far or not.
And cause of difference between look of cactus, they can be different size and so on even at same age.
These seedlings are looking okey to my eye.
I have sown seeds 2-3weeks ago:
Lophophora Williamsii v. Pentagona and v. Koehresii sowed to ~3-4cm(~1.5inch) deep poor mixture of sand, rocks, perlite and so on. Size of tray is 20x30cm(8x12inch) I sow these both of their own sides but forgot what side is what. No matter, if I success I will find out.
Lophophora Diffusa has ~30seeds in fruit. I sow them before mid-summer.
One clay pot with lophophora williamsii seeds sowed. I have collected them from my own plants. These are about 1-3weeks old and I have 3 of these pots. I have sown seeds as fast as peyotes as pop up fruits in to these pots or so.
I hope to success this time. I use heat pads now first time with seedlings so I think I have better chances now. And cause of many mistakes I have learned what not to do with seedlings. I hope I success good. It will be seen in year or two later.
This pictures has nothing to do with seedlings but I have cross-pollinated my peyotes and sow seeds. Oldest seedlings I have from my these peyote plants is one year or so.
Columnar cacti gives show shadow to these plants when sun is shining. However I took this photo at mid night and still they got day light. Real dark night comes somewhere at end of August and starts to get long very rapidly till sun is not even seen for many months at winter. Need to use artificial lights many months.
About the different color and shape very young seedlings. I have noticed that some just are different than another and then later on starts to resemble each others. Some seedlings just die without reason near to another seedlings what's are fine.

Red is fine. Mine were red and now they're beautiful. It's better to have them fat and red than lime green and stretching IME. Those seedlings look great to me.

There was a small amount of rot on one of the pups that I recently received in the mail so I decided to remove the pup entirely.
I cut off the section of rot and instead of disguarding the pup I decided to attempt to graft it to an Opuntia Fragalis I had in my collection.
This is my first graft ever I dont expect much. I used a tiny amount of super glue on the edges to make sure it stayed in place. I tried a rubber band but it kept moving the graft around too much.

I seriously can't wait to have a garden like yours psi.
Have you ever crowned any of your buttons and eaten them?

The 3 leftmost white trays are all degrafts, most of the rest are on their original roots.
I've eaten small amounts from plants that failed to root or whatever, but not enough to really get an effect. Growing for consumption is not my focus though really, I'm not really as interested in tripping at this point in my life. It does sound like grafting can make it practical to grow them for consumption though.

I would not dare to poses to many peyote plants, there is thin line between legal and illegal peyote cactus here.

Yeah peyote is pretty solidly legal here in Canada, the whole Lophophora genus is specifically exempted from the prohibition on mescaline (presumably to avoid setting a precedent for religious exemptions.) Even dried peyote flesh is presumably ok, since botanically it's still Lophophora alive or dead. I guess there are probably some police who aren't aware of that but I've never run into any problems. Might be a good idea for me to keep a copy of the Criminal Code on hand just in case though.
