Lactarius? Edible?
    #15407335 - 11/22/11 10:45 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Found growing out of grass and dirt, under pine trees.

Caps 2-4 inches diameter.  Orangish green.  Depression in center. No strong odor.

Gills - green & orangish, evenly spaced, attached to stipe.  No spore print taken but I could probably get one if needed.

Stipe, bare

Found in San Francisco East Bay.

Lactarius deliciosus group* here in the states.
As for edible....I'd gladly change the name to L. disgustingus.  I don't know why others like it, it's mealy and weird to me.

The latex is white or grey in your photos, what color was it at first?  carrot orange, red orange?

My hands were orangish after handling them, like carrot juice.

Carrot juice doesn't have orange hands. I don't know what you've been drinking.

The true L. deliciosus from Europe is better.
